Services for journal editors

The globalization of scholarship is seen in the growing number of scientific journals published in English across the world. Journal editors have the challenging task of ensuring that manuscripts submitted by a vast array of international authors conform to their journal’s stringent guidelines, the use of proper English being the key one. Peers reviewing manuscripts may not themselves have the linguistic command required to do justice to the content quality.

Having been an English-language editor for several international academic journals, I measure the challenge faced by publication editors who have to balance a manuscript’s original, innovative content with adherence to language requirements. I can help journal editors concentrate on the content leaving me to attend to the form.

I offer to journal editors the same services listed earlier, but for submitted manuscripts or manuscripts that have already gone through an initial peer-review process.

My background

A Swiss-born professor of journalism and mass communication, I received a PhD from Michigan State University. As a published author, I taught at the University of Minnesota’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication. I then co-wrote a book while a lecturer at the University of Manchester in the UK, before establishing a publishing and consulting company in London in 1991, Globalcom Ltd. Here I produced English-language international magazines and newsletters, and organised seminars and conferences for nearly 25 years. I have also been the editor of a Financial Times newsletter.

I returned to academia in 2014 as professor of mass communication and globalisation at Hannam University’s Linton School of Global Business in Daejeon, South Korea, where I also taught journalism, writing and reporting. In this capacity, I was retained by The Asian Journal of Innovation and Policy as well as The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Business, ensuring that those academic journals’ content meets the highest international English standard to satisfy an increasingly globalised academic readership.

Pricing

Over the years on the frontline, I have learned to be flexible when it comes to pricing my editorial services for scholars and international graduate/postgraduate students. A reasonably well-written manuscript naturally does not require the same amount of editing than a poorly-written work. Therefore, I ask to see first all or part of your manuscript before I can propose a fair, customised, and highly competitive quote. I work on a one-off assignment or in a retainer arrangement looking after your school/department’s scholarly publishing output. Naturally, I ensure my rates are affordable by adjusting them to the purchasing power of the countries my customers come from.

The retainer fee I propose to international journal editors to assist them in producing the highest quality periodicals is calibrated to reflect the publication’s frequency and the average length and number of articles per issue. I do also edit book-length manuscripts.

I can be contracted on a retainer basis to supervise the publishing output of a university department or school.
